Yong is an award-winning and multifaceted professional in the field of sports photography, blending his roles as a photographer and photo editor with a solid foundation in technical skills.

A hardcore sports junkie, his love for sport originated from his competitive basketball background. Having picked up photography only in college, Yong honed his eye through covering school sports for a local sporting news site, Red Sports. After graduating with a BA in communication at SUNY Buffalo’, Yong found work with Reuters as a multimedia producer, and later ventured into freelance work with the Associated Press. Yong went on to secure a sport internship with Getty Images in Los Angeles in the spring of 2019, and is now a senior photo editor with the agency.

Yong attended the 32nd edition of the Eddie Adams Workshop, and walked away with the Jim Dietz award. Yong is also an inaugural grantee of the Doug Pensinger Photography Fund and is currently representing the fund on the Young Professionals Board. Yong is also a Canon ambassador, and was chosen to front the Asian launch campaign of Canon’s EOS R3 in 2021, and most recently, the flagship EOS R1.
